Researching family history has been one of my favorite hobbies for many years, and I’ve managed to track most of my ancestors as far back as the eighteenth century.
No, I’m not related to anyone famous, but that’s not why you take up this hobby, anyway. The reason genealogy is so fun is because it provides hundreds of ready-made stories—stories you always have a personal connection to.
My ancestors were leather workers, maids, coal miners, sailors, and wool combers. One of them was lost at sea. Another was an animal rights activist. Many were immigrants from Ireland, Germany, or Denmark. Others were born in the United States.
